Geisha are traditional Japanese female entertainers who are highly skilled in various Japanese arts such as classical music, dance, games and conversation utilized mainly to entertain male customers.  Geisha are well known for using aggressive make up materials while entertaining to animate their beauty.  This make up regimen is very harsh on the skin and it is essential for geisha to maintain their beauty.  One of the geisha’s most prized beauty secrets is the use of camellia oil for make up removal, youthful looking skin and skin rejuvenation.
Camellia grows as a shrub or a small tree in the wild or through cultivation and is often found in the mountains and forests of Asia, especially China and Japan.  Interestingly, the plant has a beautiful flower that symbolizes feminine beauty.
The fruit or seeds of the camellia consist of several small chambers, each playing host to a number of seeds within it. Camellia seeds contain between 40-50% of nutritive oil that is low in saturated fat.
Camellia oil possesses only a slight herbal aroma with a medium viscosity and it contains: Vitamins A, B, and E, Polyphenols, Squalene, Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9. Squalene is an important component of the skin’s natural emollient system, and its deficiency can result in dry, premature aging, wrinkles and sagging skin. Rich in mono-saturated essential fatty acids, camellia is particularly high in oleic acid (around 80%) which exceeds the level found in olive oil. Camellia oil is moisturizing, conditioning and one of the most rapidly absorbed plant oils. The unique make-up of the oil allows penetration into the deepest layers of the skin, promoting cell growth.
The oil has significant antioxidant properties and it has a highly restorative and rejuvenating effect on skin.  Camellia protects the skin from age-spots and increased pigmentation and it can improve complexion.  Applying the oil around the eyes and mouth can soften wrinkles and tiny maturity lines.
Camellia oil is best applied after showering or taking a bath. Apply a small amount to damp skin, massage gently and thoroughly in circular motion until completely absorbed. Use morning and night, or as often as needed.  Camellia oil is very well suited for use in cleansers, soaps, moisturizers, face creams, formulations for mature skin, lip care products, hair and scalp products, nail care, make-up, sun care preparations, baby products, shaving products, massage, aromatherapy and other cosmeceutical formulations.
